Instructor

Johannis Bayer

Johannis is the founder of Interlect Analytics, a service provider for textual and data analytics, and translation and interpreting. He has over a decade of industry experience as a conference interpreter and communicator working with Chinese, English and German. His work has taken him to meetings between many heads of state and government and China's president and premier.

He has worked for the C-suite of many Fortune 500 companies, and his background in the financial sector has allowed him to attend negotiations on mergers and acquisitions, where the languages of law, finance, accounting and specific business segments come together. Johannis is also an analyst with a focus on macro policy, growth dynamics and market themes in China.

Johannis holds a master's degree in oriental studies (Chinese) from the University of Cambridge and conference interpreting from Beijing Foreign Studies University. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Melbourne. As a conference interpreter, he is accredited with the European Union and NAATI. He also holds qualifications in financial modelling, valuation, capital markets, and securities analysis (FMVA® and CMSA®).

    The course is designed for language specialists such as translators and interpreters, bilingual editors, researchers and analysts, and language students.

  • What language is the course given in?

    The course is presented in English. The case studies and examples come from Chinese, English and German, but the techniques you will be introduced to can also be applied to other languages. We recommend students have at least intermediate English language proficiency to be able to follow the presentation and demonstrations. However, the search techniques themselves can also be used by beginners to improve their language and research skills.
